Marvel and DC Themes and Characters Marvel If you look at the central theme of Marvel comics, you will likely notice that the superheroes you look up to come from ordinary people like you and me. Marvel The Marvel franchise is undoubtedly more popular than DC.

DC A central theme in DC movies is darkness, both literally and figuratively. Marvel On the other hand, the public is not as welcoming of mutants in Marvel comics. Universe DC In the make-believe universe of DC comics, they explored the fantasy of living a life with inborn superpowers, good qualities and having people look up to you and adore you. Marvel In the Marvel universe, our favorite heroes are real people experiencing real issues in life.

Marvel In Marvel, the superheroes are mere mortals who get into some kind of freak accident that involves radiation exposure. Who can beat Superman in Marvel? Did Marvel copy DC? Add to Wishlist. Choose your wishlist to be added Create New wishlist save. My Wishlist Save.

Copy Link Copy. Darkseid is Jack Kirby's giant-jawed alien overlord of Apokolips, hell-bent on seeking out the anti-life equation and eradicating the universe of all free will. Thanos, on the other hand, is the giant-jawed overlord of Titan, fixated on making Death his girlfriend and subjugating the galaxy. Both are super-strong, telekinetic teleporters who seem to be ageless and can travel through time, and both are pretty much the most powerful bad guy in their respective universes.

You can't really blame Jim Starlin for trying to come up with his own version of Darkseid for Marvel Comics, because Darkseid is one heck of an awesome villain.

It doesn't get much cooler than soul-seeking eye-lasers. The X-Men September vs. The Doom Patrol June Black Cat vs. Catwoman Deadpool vs. Deathstroke Super Adaptoid vs. Amazo Vision vs. While they're from completely different companies, both heroes have gotten a lot of buzz.

Flash has a TV series and is a member of the justice league movies. However, despite their fame combating, Flash will always have the upper hand in his own way. One, because he has several different guys under the moniker, and two because he was created first. While everyone is still freaking out about Thanos and his infinity snapping, he's not the only horrible entity out there in the galaxy.

After all, Thanos, just destroys lives. Galactus eats worlds. Yes, we're talking about the power villain, Galactus. Without morality, he's a unique villain that serves more a more destructive, functional purpose in the universe, even though the whole destroyer thing is still frightening.

In , DC decided to try their hand at an energy-eating lad, Imperiex. The embodiment of entropy, he just destroys universes because that's his role in the galaxy. However, of course, the DC heroes want to stop him from destroying theirs. Sound familiar at all? One of Superman's most intimidating and indomitable villains ever is Brainiac, the mastermind computer with countless copies of himself in the multi-verse. From his early days in comics, Brainiac has been getting under Clark Kent's skin since In the pursuit of knowledge and control, Brainiac does some terrible and merciless actions.

Ultimately, Ultron decides that humans are beneath him and becomes a powerful, intelligent adversary. Though Brainiac doesn't quite have his own major motion picture yet , he beat Ultron to the comic book shelves by a decade. It hardly matters who beats who, though, when each time someone destroys either one, there seems to be countless more. Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful people in the Marvel comics universe.

At her strongest, she can bend reality at her whim. Most of the time, though, Marvel just treats her like a mildly unstable magician lady. Considering she magicked her children into existing, she's an interesting one. DC's lady magician counterpart has less magical babies, but she's still intelligent and strong.

Zatanna, who appears like a traditional magician with a hat and a rabbit, is really a strong magic user. Much like Scarlet Witch, she easily works with magic around her. Only debuted months apart, Scarlet Witch was in comics first while Zatanna trailed behind. The reality star and her drummer beau Travis Barker recently jetted to Portofino, Italy, where they were seen enjoying each other's company. Via screenrant. Via wscomics. Via dailysuperheroes. The first Doctor Fate was archaeologist Sven Nelson, fighting crime and supernatural danger from a tower in Massachusetts. He became a medical doctor in Doctor Fate's description sounds a lot like another medical doctor who uses an amulet and magic cloak to help him fight supernatural threats and master the arcane arts.

Marvel's Doctor Stephen Strange made his first appearance in , and since then has defended New York and the universe from his secluded Sanctum Sanctorum. The Wasp is one of the great female heroes of the Marvel Universe: one of the longest serving Avengers, and their leader after Tony Stark -- she even named the Avengers!

Janet van Dyne can fly, change size thanks to Pym Particles, fire bio-electric energy blasts, and control insects like Ant-Man. However, she's not the only heroine flying around sporting her thematic black-and-yellow look. With a suit that gives her powers identical to the Wasp's, including electric shock stingers, she became a member of the teenage team-up.

Later on, she developed the ability to fire off sonic blasts, but that's not quite enough to distinguish her from her famous Marvel predecessor. With Infinity War just around the corner, it's hard to escape images of the Mad Titan. Huge, purple, and sporting boots that mean business, Thanos has certainly got a distinctive look. It's too bad it's a look that, along with his powers and his universal megalomania, makes him a dead ringer for DC's Darkseid. Darkseid made his debut in a cameo in , three years before Thanos would make his first appearance in Iron Man We'd next see the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips in , and he's been a mainstay DC villain ever since.

Darkseid boasts extreme superhuman strength, speed, intelligence, energy manipulation powers, as well as a ruthless will to dominate the universe. He can also fly and teleport, and is basically immortal.

Thanos boasts the exact same set of powers, as well as sharing Darkseid's love of brooding on a throne. Alternate universe comics are always entertaining, and zombies have been a phenomenon for the last few years. Marvel made a great call with its Marvel Zombies event, running from to A strange infection turns the Marvel heroes of Earth into zombies, though not shambling mindless ones.

They keep their powers and intellects, but are driven by "the Hunger" to devour human flesh. Zombie superheroes were also the focus of DC's Blackest Night event, where the personified force of the Grim Reaper, Nekron, raises superheroes to crush out all life. While the Marvel zombies hunger for flesh, the Black Lanterns devour emotions. The story was more closely tied to DC's main continuity, and led to the follow-up series Brightest Day , which resolved loose threads from resurrected heroes.

Continuing the tradition of similar animal-named heroes we have Marvel's Mockingbird, who bears a strong resemblance to DC's Black Canary. Black Canary made her first appearance in , and since then she's shown off her martial arts and espionage skills. By , she had been given a truly superhuman ability in her sonic Canary Cry. Meanwhile, Marvel's Barbara Morse took a while to eventually settle on her Mockingbird monicker and black leather look in Her early appearances have her as a biologist, and later she became Agent 19 of S.

Like Canary, Mockingbird is a hand-to-hand fighter and an investigator. Mockingbird also has a few superpowers, like enhanced healing. When Iron Man made his debut in , the audience saw a metal suited superhero shooting out of the Cold War conflict for the first time. In , DC introduced its own metal-suited hero, but this time he hailed from Russia. Both heroes share a love of tech and tinkering with suits to help them protect the Earth. Where Marvel's Tony Stark is complex, vice-ridden, and wonderfully inventive, Rocket Red is more muted.

He is also less prone to rolling out a new suit of armor for every occasion. Perhaps a combination of being the first, loudest, and most prolific of the two, Tony Stark is by far the more recognizable.
